The Classy Kid Collection is proud to be able to offer you a 29" composition doll made by the K and K Toy Co. in 1924, marketed by George Borgfeldt & Co. She is appropriately marked on her shoulder plate. Please click on images for larger views.

Goerge Borgfeldt & Company was located in New York (1881 to the mid 1900s) and was an importer and assembler of dolls. They did not manufacture their own dolls. They held the distributing rights to many dolls from European manufacturers such as: Handwerch, Kathe Krause, Kestner and Steiff. They also distributed American dolls for Cameo Doll Company, Aetna Doll Company, Bergfeld & Son, Dreamland Doll. They are best known for commissioning and distributing Rosie O'Neill's Kewpie Dolls and Grace Putnum's Bye-Lo dolls. George Borgfeldt is also responsible for the putting the Steiff bears in mass production. Some of the dolls will have the marking from the manufacturer. Such is the case here. The K and K mama dolls are very rare and hard to locate. They were advertised in the 1924 Butler Bros catalog. This is only the second one I have every come across.

She is wearing a newly made dress of pale green batiste trimmed with lace. There is a satin ribbon tie at the front bodice. It is fashioned after an original dress. Underneath is a slip and panties that came with her, but are not original. She is wearing her original shoes and socks.
She has her original auburn human hair wig in excellent condition. She has her original barrets on each side of her hair. Her wig is full and has not been cut. She has nice coloring on her face, knees, and back of her hands. There is a small bit of paint missing above her lips, a speck on her nose, and chin. It is hardly noticeable. She has upper teeth and rosy lips. She has beautiful tin eyes. She has full lashes and her eyes open and close easily. She has brush stroke upper and lower lashes. Her paint is all original, she has NOT been repainted. She has been well taken care of.
This is a very large and heavy doll. She has composition head, arms and legs that are cloth above the thighs. They are jointed at the hip. Her cloth body is in excellent condition.

This is a beautiful large doll, and very hard to find in this condition. She will make a nice addition to any doll collection.
